What is it with Hollywood and only children? Seriously. I am not quite sure why this is such a phenomenon to me, but I find that more and more ‘only children’ are interested in becoming famous actors or actresses.

I guess this interest may stem from the fact that these children have no one to play with all day, and therefore they must rely on their own imagination to provide entertainment. But what I have come to find as the most accurate factor is that these “Hollywood only children” suffer from what I like to call the “look at me” syndrome. This is not true for every case of the Hollywood only child syndrome, but I find it to be extremely accurate when working with such people in the Hollywood forum.

Here are some only children you may have seen on the silver, or the small screen:

Liam Aiken, Lauren Bacall, Ernest Borgnine, Jesse Bradford, Jonathan Brandis, Jake Busey, Bo Diddley, Clea DuVall, Will Estes, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Teri Hatcher, Peter Jackson, Swoosie Kurtz, Janet Leigh, Tara Lipinski, James Lipton, Shelley Long, Liza Minnelli, Beverly Mitchell, Megan Mullally, Gregory Peck, Regis Philbin, Natalie Portman, Freddie Prinze Jr., Kristy Swanson, Charlize Theron, and Michael Vartan

*On Inside the Actors Studio with James Lipton Natalie Portman asked James, “you are an only child, do you like yourself? I like myself… a lot.”
*Freddie Prinze Jr. and Sarah Michelle Gellar make the perfect ‘only child’ couple (which is kind of an oxymoron if you ask me), do you think they will have an only child of their own?
*In Garden State, Zach Braff’s character is an only child who is trying to make it as a famous Hollywood actor.
