Hit - Starring Tom Welling, Kristin Kreuk, Michael Rosenbaum, Allison Mack, Erica Durance, John Schneider, Annette O’Toole, John Glover

A teenage Clark Kent stuggles with learning about his alien powers and how to channel them. While dealing with his changes, Clark must also deals with the typical troubles of teenage life in Smallville.

As you may have noticed, Season three did not make the cut of my favorite Smallville seasons. This is due to the fact that season three is not that great. A few choice episodes helped season three from peril, but it did not further the overall plot line of the story. Seaons one and two were especially interesting because we were able to see Clark obtaining his powers and teaching himself how to use them in a discrete manner. It is also interesting to see the love triangle between Chole, Lana, and Clark. By the end of season two, most people really want Lana and Clark to be together. By the end of Season four, however, I am so tired of their yo-yo relationship that I really want one of them to leave the show (Lana, obviously). Which is difficult because Lana is the mainstream eye candy of the show (although I personally really like Chole and Lois).

The characters of Lex and Lionel Luther are expertly played by Michael Rosenbaum and John Glover. They play the characters exactly how villians should be played. And, thanks to the writers, they are able to expertly create a fantastic villian. The best part about their characters is they are conflicted with wanting to be good or to do good that they really make the audience think they can eventually be a good character. Then, something horrible will happen and you will realize that they will never be good characters. Although, there is still hope for Lionel - I truly believe this.

The best part about Smallville for me: always wondering, “How is Clark going to get out of this?” Even though I know he will since there are always more episodes to watch. Somehow I still manage to ask this question every episode.

The one idea of Smallville that really makes me angry is ending the season with a cliffhanger. I believe only one season did not end with a cliffhanger (season three maybe). Right now I am desperately awaiting the beginning of season six because season five left us in major peril. How is Clark going to escape the wrath of Zod? If you know, please email me. I won’t tell anyone!

Favorite Comedic Episode: Spirit - (Synopsis from box) It’s her big night! A car accident in a ravine filled with Kryptonite gives a wannabe prom queen’s spirit the power to take over the bodies of others.

Hit - Starring Jack Black, Ana de la Reguera

Nacho (Jack Black) is a young man who was born and raised in a Mexican monastery. Being all grown up, Nacho works as the cook for the orphans who live there. Once he realizes that the monastery is in a financial blunder, he takes it upon himself to rescue his holy home. To do this, he joins a local Lucha Libre tournament and becomes one of the ‘Luchadores’.

If you like Jack Black, you will love this movie. I found myself laughing every 5 minutes. This movie provides physical and verbal comedy around every corner. I really enjoyed the style of film - including the costumes, lighting, and overall landscape of the film. Overall: The makers of Napoleon Dynamite have really created a great comedy.

Comedy

Rated PG for some rough action, and crude humor including dialogue.

Running Time: 1 hour 40 minutes.

Hit - Starring Owen Wilson, Paul Newman, Bonnie Hunt

Lightning McQueen (Wilson) is a hot-shot hotrod who is on his way to his first big race win. Unfortunately, McQueen makes a wrong turn and finds himself stuck in Radiator Springs. After destryoing a major part of the city, McQueen is sentenced to community service in order to repair the damage. Will Lightning be able to fix the town and still make it to the final race ontime?

Cars is a charming tale that teaches children (and adults) the value of humility. Kids and adults will both enjoy the story. It provides elements of adventure, laughter, and surprise. I really enjoy seeing the transition of the main character from a cocky caterpillar, to a humble butterfly. Overall: This is a movie for the entire family.

Best Scene: Tractor tipping

Hit - Starring Julia Stiles, Liev Schreiber, Mia Farrow

A remake of the 1976 horror classic The Omen (1976); an American government ambassador realizes that his son may be the devil.

This movie is an adequate remake of the original. Although, I don’t believe anyone can top the performance of Gregory Peck, I still feel that this movie keep you on the edge of your seat. The overall look of the film is very stunning and timeless. I really had no sense of what year it was thanks to basic (but bold) costuming and lighting.

The overall best performance of the film is Mia Farrow as the nanny. At the beginning you really like her character, but then you realize she is just as bad as Damien.

Damien himself is scary looking because of his bland expressions and slow movements. I have a feeling this child actor will be in my classroom next year, and that would be horrifying.

Overall: A descent remake, but hopefully they will not remake the sequels.

Horror

Rated R for disturbing violent content, graphic images and some language.

Running time: 1 hour 40 minutes.

Miss - Starring Jennifer Aniston, Vince Vaughn, Jon Favreau, Joey Lauren Adams, Jason Bateman

Brooke and Gary have broken up. But neither of them will move out of their condo. Therefore, the mental warfare begins, in attempt to drive the other person away.

The best parts of this film were shown in the trailers and tv-previews. Unfortunately, once the audience realizes this movie has nothing else to offer, it ultimately falls flat on its face. However, I did enjoy that the movie strayed from the Hollywood formula but I found that the end of the movie lacked closure - which, in a way, is representative of a break-up.

Jennifer Aniston is another actress that really only has one character to give. Vince Vaughn is in the same boat as he portrays similar characters in all of his movies. These characters usually have a stream of consciousness rant somewhere in the movie. It is getting a little too predictable for both actors. I hope to see them extend their acting abilities into something a little more risque next time.

Bottom line: Wait for video/dvd.

Comedy

Rated PG-13 for sexual content, some nudity and language.

Running Time: 1 hour 45 minutes = too long.

Hit - Starring Lindsay Lohan, Chris Pine, Missi Pyle

Ashley Albright (Lohan) is the luckiest girl in New York City. Jake Hardin (Pine) is the unluckiest guy in New York City. But their luck changes when Jake and Ashley kiss at a masquerade party. Now that Jake has stolen Ashley’s luck, she will do anything to get it back.

A cute teeny-bopper film that is simple to follow, and a lot of fun. Chris Pine (Princess Diaries 2) provides onscreen eye-candy- while Lindsay Lohan does her best at acting the part of a Manhattan socialite (heavy sarcasm). Overall, this movie has a lot of charm.

I am expecting more out of Lindsay’s acting for her next film. At this point I only see Lindsay playing one character, and I hope this changes pace for the movie A Prairie Home Companion. If she wants to be a serious actress then she needs to turn down teeny-bopper films and finally do some character acting. We’ll see how she does alongside Meryl Streep and Lily Tomlin at the end of the month.

Bottom Line: Simple and cute.

Best Scene: Washing clothes at Jake’s appartment.

Comedy

Rated PG-13

Running Time: 1 hour 43 minutes.

Hit - Starring Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Famke Janssen, James Marsden, Ian McKellen, Kelsey Grammer, Anna Paquin, Rebecca Romjin, Shawn Ashmore, Patrick Stewart

A cure is found to rid mutants of their mutations; but not everyone is excited about sed-cure. Charles Xavier (Stewart) -leader and founder of the school for gifted children- believes in mutant tolerance. At the same time, his nemesis, Magneto (McKellen) believes in mutant domination. The opposing viewpoints begin a war to end all wars (or so it seems).

Not my favorite movie of the X-Men movies but it is a movie that is truly unique. It is hard to like a movie that focuses on a character that does not have dominant acting talents, but the back story of Dr. Jean Gray allows the audience to realize the capabilities of her second alter-ego : The Phoenix. I am not sure if I simply do not like Dr. Jean Gray because I do not like Famke Janssen or because the character was poorly written.

Still, this movie is action packed with bits of humor thrown in. There are some amazing special effects sequences in the film. I also like the character played by Kelsey Grammer as we have not seen him do a role like this…ever. And finally, we get to see Storm (Berry) fly.

Although this movies is called X-Men: The Last Stand, it may not be the final X-Men movie. Looking at the IMDB.com website I have noticed that there is a movie already announced called Wolverine - starring Hugh Jackman, and Magneto - starring Ian McKellen.

Bottom Line: Not as good as the second film, but very much entertaining. Check it out on the big screen while you can.

Don’t forget: Stay after the credits because there is one last scene which could ruin the entire movie if revealed. You have to see it to understand.

Action/Sci-Fi

Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of action violence, some sexual content and language.

Running time: 1 hour 44 minutes.
