Homer accidentally causes the EPA to seal up Springfield in a glass dome when they become a threat to the environment. Now, Homer must save the town before President Schwarzenegger allows them to be destroyed.
The Simpson’s Movie was exactly what I thought it would be. There were plenty of laughs, including jokes about the audience paying to see something they could get for free; and they poke fun at themselves (as always). There really isn’t much to say about the Simpson’s movie except it is funny. My favorite part was when Flanders gives Bart hot coco. Hi-larious!
Bottom Line: What you would expect from a Simpson’s Movie.
This season of Last Comic Standing has been slightly weaker than last season. I would like to recap my favorite stand -up moment from last season featuring my favorite Last Comic Standing comedian Doug Benson.
Zach Lipovsky – “The Bonus Feature” A first date for two individuals who find that a magical dvd player can transport them to different movies. Featuring homages to Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Rebel Without a Cause (?), and others. Miss Movies vote – a weak hit (not Zach’s best film)
I liked Zach’s use of referencing other films but I found the story to be weak. I would have liked more story between the couple rather than just a topical adventure. This short was abbreviated and needed more background to make it a complete short film.
Adam Stein – “Girl Trouble” Two roommates fight over the supposed gender of one of the roommates recent hookup. Miss Movies vote – Miss; there were a few laughs but overall I felt the main characters did not deliver.
The actors in this film have been very good in other films. I feel that by letting the actors improve is where Adam went wrong. As always, Patrick Kerr was excellent in his role as the wo-man. I felt the ending was hilarious (the other roommate is also dating a “wo-man”)but I didn’t think it was enough to make the film a hit.
Will Bigham – “Unplugged” Two office lamps find love in the office workplace. The trouble is, they are in two different cubicles. Miss Movies vote – hit; this movie was the best of the evening!
Unplugged was very inventive. I really liked that Will used puppetry to do his film. The only part of his film that needed more fine tuning was the chemistry between the two human characters at the end of the film. My favorite detail of the film was the color of the lamps – the boy character had the blue lamp and the girl character had the pink lamp (of course!). I love it!
Andrew Hunt – “Keep Off Grass” A meticulous gardener is having a bad day when he discovers that two superheros have had a lovers argument which wreaks havoc in pristine garden. Miss Movies vote – miss
The judges criticized this film exactly as I would have criticized this film. The overall idea of the film was too small. Superheros messing up someone’s garden is too small for a “super” hero. Plus, the gardener didn’t realize his garden was being ruined until the end of the film. It would have been more interesting to have the gardener catch the superheros making a mess.
Sam Friedlander – “American Hoe” An engaged couple fight over the stamp selection for their wedding invitations. Miss Movies vote – a weak hit ; it was cute but not the best film Sam has directed
We have heard this story before, but this time, instead of fighting over invitation wording or typos, the couple is fighting over stamps. Ultimately we realize the groom-to-be has made a mistake on purpose in order for his bride-to-be to free him of all of his wedding duties.
Jason Epperson – “Old Home Boyz” A high school reunion brings out Carl Epps a man who has just one last thing to do, impress a high school unrequited love. The way to her heart? – a Dance off against the school bully. Miss Movies vote – Hit
This film was entertaining from the first frame. I really like the dance segment that Jason put into this film but I wish it could have been longer. My question is, was Jason playing Carl the entire time? I wasn’t quite sure.
My Favorites in order:
1. “Unplugged” by Will Bigham
2. “Old Home Boyz” by Jason Epperson
3. “The Bonus Feature” by Zach Lipovsky
4. “American Hoe” by Sam Friedlander
5. “Keep Off Grass” by Andrew Hunt
6. “Girl Trouble” by Adam Stein
I believe this film to be the best short film produced and directed from the show “On the Lot.” Zach has done other great films but so far this is one of my favorites!
Filmed by Zach Lipovsky, one of my favorite films to be shown “On the Lot.” Check it out and tell me what you think. Zach has also done a short film about the bores of the office called Die Hardly Working, which I hope to put up on the website.
I had this video on HOMM awhile ago and then it disappeared. It has resurfaced on YouTube and I thought I would bring it back for your enjoyment. The video starts out slow, but ends with a bang. Make sure you watch the entire video before deciding if it is a Hit or Miss for you.
