An action remake of the 1951 classic sci-fi film that centers around an alien, and his robot counterpart, that lands and tells the people of Earth that they must live peacefully or be destroyed as they are a danger to other planets.

Unfortunately the remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still took more of an action point of view rather than science fiction. The original had more style and interest, whereas this film had more spectacle and action sequence.

The plot of this particular remake differed slightly from the original in the manner that Klattu (Reeves) did not have a moment of peril (as in the first film). This caused a series of classic scenes from the original to be absent in the remake. What happened to the famous quote: Klaatu barada nikto!? It is a shame that this movie was so strong in 1951 and yet so weak in 2008.

Bottom Line: Rent the original.
